Exam presets set the width and height for you. The padlock is open, so your signature is trimmed to the exact shape instead of stretched.

How it works

Resize a signature in three steps

01

Add Your Signature

Sign on plain white paper with a dark pen, take a straight, well-lit photo or scan, then drop it on the card.

02

Crop Close To The Ink

Pick your exam from the Size Preset list. The crop frame takes the right shape, so you only need to frame the signature with a thin margin.

03

Clean Up And Download

Whiten the paper, darken the ink, check the real file size against the limit, then download your signature as a JPG.

Why this tool

The complete guide to signature uploads

Basics

What a good signature image looks like

An upload portal is not judging your handwriting. It only needs a clean, readable signature at the right size, so the fewer things in the picture other than ink, the better. A good file has dark ink, a white background, almost no empty border and the exact pixel size and KB range the form asks for.

Most rejections come from the same short list: a grey or yellow background, a huge image with a small signature lost in the middle, the wrong dimensions, or a file that is just over the limit.

Taking The Picture

How to photograph or scan your signature

  • Use plain white paper. Unlined paper works best, because ruled lines can be mistaken for part of the signature.
  • Use a dark pen. A black or dark blue ball pen is ideal. Pencil and light gel pens fade when compressed.
  • Light it evenly. Sit near a window or lamp so no shadow falls across the page.
  • Hold the camera straight above. A tilted shot skews the shape and leaves one side blurry.
  • Sign large. A big signature loses less detail when it is shrunk to a small number of pixels.

Clean-Up

What the ink clean-up does

Phone photos of paper are rarely truly white. Shadows and warm lamps turn the page grey or cream, and that grey costs file size and looks poor on a form. The clean-up option pushes light tones to white and darkens the pen strokes, so you get a bold signature on a clean background.

If your signature looks too heavy or too thin, move the Ink Strength slider. A lower value keeps more of the original softness. A higher value gives a stronger contrast. You can also switch the option off to keep the picture exactly as it is.

File Size

Reaching 10 to 20 KB without a blurry result

A signature is mostly white with a few dark strokes, which compresses well. You can usually reach a small limit with little visible change. Still, the right order matters. Crop tightly first, so pixels are not wasted on empty paper. Let the clean-up whiten the background, then set your target. The tool lowers quality gradually and tells you if the number cannot be reached at your chosen dimensions.

Tip: if a form allows 10 to 20 KB, aim near the top. More bytes usually mean cleaner edges.
Mistakes

Mistakes that get a signature rejected

  • Signing on a coloured or lined page.
  • Using the picture of a signature with a large blank border.
  • Stretching a wide signature into a square box.
  • Uploading a PNG renamed as JPG. This tool always saves a real JPEG.
  • Ignoring the minimum size. Some forms reject files that are too small, not only too large.
Privacy

Is it safe to resize a signature online?

A signature is sensitive, so it should not travel to a stranger's server. Here, every step runs inside your browser and the file never leaves your device. See the Privacy Policy for details, and avoid posting your signature image in public places.
